The project foresees the construction of a high voltage electricity grid in the Belgian part of the North Sea, to connect four planned offshore wind farms to the onshore grid connection point (in Zeebrugge) in an optimal way.
The Modular Offshore Grid concept and project foresees that the wind power of these four connected wind farms would be concentrated in one offshore point, a “plug”, and then be evacuated from this “plug” to the onshore grid through a number of submarine cables. The four wind farms to be connected will each be realized by their respective owners. These wind farms will not be realized all at once. There is an offset between each of the wind farms’ schedules.
Hence, the offshore grid will have a modular concept, to allow realization in multiple phases, synchronized with the different wind farms’ schedules. This is called the Modular Offshore Grid. The figure below shows the modular offshore grid after complete realization, and highlights the scope of this project.
General Info of the assignment:
E&I Engineer (Electrical & Instrumentation) within an offshore context
Elia will appoint a detailed designer and later a Fabrication Contractor
The E&I Engineer works as a client representative, and will follow-up the E&I design and later the fabrication on the yard (not necessarily in Belgium).
The E&I engineer will need to challenge the designer and Fabricator, and make sure the design is fit for purpose (e.g. maintenance friendly, reliable,…)
The E&I engineer will be responsible for interfaces related to E&I (within Elia and external).
The E&I engineer will need to anticipate problems within his/her domain and work out mitigation measures together with the Elia team and the Contractors.
The E&I engineer will report to the Platform Package manage
Hard skills and soft skills:
Practical experience on offshore yards (min 7-10yrs), including experience with commissioning (onshore and offshore).
Has experience within the offshore wind sector.
Has experience with GIS equipement (Gas Insulated Switchgear) (>150kV) and SCADA systems from different vendors.
Experience with submarine power cables is a plus (mainly the interface between platform and cable installation)
Independent but also a teamplayer
Education level: technical bachelor/master or equivalent by experience
Fluent in English
(Dutch is a plus)
Duration of the project:
Full time starting immediately – March 2018 – Extension possible
Working hours & workplace:
Included in day rate (accommodation, food, gasoline, car)
