As part of EC&R’s Technology and Innovation team, you will be required to project manage a range of leading edge wind industry innovation projects, in addition to providing expert project management knowledge and support to the T&I team. Prior experience in the renewable energy industry, and in particular wind, is preferable, but not essential.
T&I projects can range in scope and complexity, from ‘technology tracking’, primarily desk-based projects, through to site based technology evaluation/application, often involving elements of assembly and/or construction.
Many of the projects involve the development of new software tools and/or applications. Whilst these elements of the project will usually be delivered by internal or external technical experts, a good general knowledge of electro-mechanical and/or software engineering systems would provide a distinct advantage.
T&I projects are executed in line with our internal ‘Project Governance Process’, which has been designed to offer a flexible and scalable approach to project planning, control and reporting. The process has been developed from best industry practice to meet the specific needs of the business, to achieve the right level of rigor, whilst also aiming minimise administration. Therefore, although not essential, the project manager should have a good understanding of project management principles, preferably with accredited training in APMP, PRINCE2, Agile or similar.
As a self-motivated and driven individual, the project manager will be expected to work largely without supervision, taking the lead, where necessary, to address projects issues as they arise and working with collaboratively the team to determine appropriate resolution, and taking timely and appropriate action when issues arise. Most projects are run with matrix-managed resources and the project manager should demonstrate experience of achieving results in such an environment. EC&R T&I often take part in externally funded consortium or partnering based collaborative research projects. The project manager will be expected to represent EC&R in such projects and ideally have some experience of these types of projects.
